On January 31st, 2014 Los Angeles Clippers player, Matt Barnes and wife Gloria Govan teamed up with the high-end fashion company, Versace, for a champagne reception to bring awareness to his Athletes vs. Cancer Foundation. Matt Barnes founded his program in honor of his beloved mother Ann Barnes, who was diagnosed with lung cancer on November 1st, 2007. Unfortunately, she passed away just 26 days after she was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 50. Structured to educate and bring awareness to the disease in low income neighborhoods, Athletes vs. Cancer provides free mobile screening to families and patients suffering from cancer.
Held in the gorgeous Versace store in Beverly Hills, the Athletes vs. Cancer event was full of surprises and giveaways, from a signed NBA basketball by Los Angeles Clippers’ players to Versace eyewear. The evening also included live music by a five-piece orchestra, sexy cocktails, tasty hors d’ oeuvre, a private in store fashion show, and an exclusive private shopping experience of the Versace signature collection, from which 10% of the sales were donated to the foundation.
Guest included Barnes’ teammates Chris Paul, Willie Green, DeAndre Jordan, and Blake Griffin. Reality personality and Matt’s sister-in-law, Laura Govan, Steven of the Ravado Company, and Wing Lam, founder of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, just to name a few.
