Wine, champagne and delicious bites were served throughout Neiman Marcus‘ Topanga store for their 2014 Fall Fashion Preview, thanks to O’Gara Coach and Wine Media Connect who sponsored their savvy soiree. Guests enjoyed complimentary makeup sessions and shopped for trends, while models showcased the latest, dramatically gorgeous wares. Gowns ranged from mini to maxi in length, while using fabrics of silk and lace that featured rich saturated hues of emeralds and indigos. The private event also included some fabulous giveaways – a weekend for two at the luxurious Four Season’s Resort, as well as spa, fragrance and beauty packages.
Roberto Cavalli, Chanel and Giuseppe Zanotti were just a few of the designers whose current trends embodied this season’s theme “Global Chic” in the way of bold animal prints like zebra and leopard, along with classic, travel-inspired earth tones and neutrals like ivory beige, black and white. Fall 2014 accessories included oversized and super lady-like frame bags, lots of leather with chain-trimmed detail and bold statement necklaces. But the star of the show, or should I says stars, were a pair of Giuseppe Zanotti caramel fur wedge sneakers. The caramel-toned sneaks are the perfect shoe for winter, especially here in LA, where the weather is often so mild, getting dressed for “winter” is a look more than a necessity.
On hand to celebrate the fall fashion preview event were some of the store’s most loyal customers. One in particular, who shared her story with me, was perhaps the most courageous and heroic attendee: fashion designer, Claire Farwell. A native of London, the former model and actress was diagnosed with breast cancer. After going in for what she thought was a routine mammogram, the fit and health-conscious 40-year-old was stunned to learn she had breast cancer. She soon made the choice to undergo a double mastectomy. “I had my husband’s support and love so I just went for it,” she says. The mom of two (her first daughter was two years old at the time) says it inspired her to “live life even more boldly.” After undergoing the mastectomy, she launched a fashion line, Claire Farwell London. Her dresses not only combine the right amount of sex-appeal and timelessness, they’re PETA and vegan friendly, reversible and wrinkle-free. “Women are already gorgeous, just by the nature of the fact that we’re women and my dresses are the icing on the cake,” says Farwell. And while the ageless couture of Chanel and others never goes out of style, neither does courage.
