Rooftop Cinema Club’s viewing of Holiday classic, Elf, played to a sold out crowd! Located in Downtown LA’s LEVEL, the rooftop set the perfect scene for a winter viewing of a holiday classic.  The venue was decorated with a holiday spin, complete with a giant-sized stocking and faux snow on the ground. Only in Los Angeles would it be possible to watch a holiday movie outside at night in cozy 60-degree weather. While many Angelenos assume that outdoor movies are limited to the summer/fall season, Rooftop Cinema Club allows you the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor movie experience year round. They provide blankets, lounge chairs, popcorn, food and drinks for purchase. Attendees are given wireless headphones that ensure high sound quality.

Elf was the perfect movie to watch in an urban setting. Throughout the movie, the audience laughed and enjoyed Buddy the Elf’s, played by Will Ferrell, antics. Zooey Deschanel’s singing reminded the crowd of the Christmas spirit, and some viewers even chose to sing along! You could imagine the crowd wondering what it would be like to have a tall man dressed as an Elf walking through the streets of downtown Los Angeles. The movie is always sure to please, and perfectly fit the atmosphere while getting attendees into the holiday spirit.

Rooftop Cinema Club offers three tiers of tickets. There is basic admission with a lounge seat (around $18), lounge seat with bottomless popcorn (around $21) and a love seat option with bottomless popcorn (around $25) for those who want to cuddle up. The prices vary depending on the movie, day, and location. For some of the holiday viewings, there is also a children’s ticket option, but most of the screenings are ages 21+.  While this may seem pricey to watch an older movie, the atmosphere, quality of accommodations, and unique experience beat out any movie theater that charges similar rates. These viewings provide you with a sense of community and participation that movie theaters lack.

If you are attending for the first time, be sure to arrive early to check in, get your popcorn, and to find your seats. Seating is first come, first serve, so if you are looking to sit together with a group, come early to ensure no one has to split up. Because parking is limited and expensive in both locations, ride sharing is highly recommended and useful! Even though they do offer a blanket at check-in, if you get cold easily, be sure to bundle up for the winter screenings.

Rooftop Cinema Club will continue to have viewings of holiday classics throughout the month.
