We(ed) The People! People’s DTLA Opens in Downtown

Beyond the obvious connection of a mutual focus on plant life, when you think about it, cannabis and Christmas really do go well together. Whether you’re looking for a good way to ride that holiday cheer, or need a solution to help chill out when surrounded by the stresses of shopping and family, it can help to take a page from that star “high” up on your tree. Thankfully, Angelenos have another great option in People’s DTLA, located in the Fashion District right in downtown Los Angeles.

People’s DTLA, LA’s newest experience-driven cannabis dispensary focused on providing excellent products as well as supporting the community and local philanthropy, held its grand opening on Saturday, December 18 from 10am-10pm. The tastefully discreet two-story building immediately lowers the blood pressure with its dedicated rooftop parking. The entrance is spacious and filled with natural light- during the grand opening, it featured live art and customization by female muralist Mr B Baby.

After checking in with the helpful front-desk staff and walking into the main atrium, guests encounter a neatly organized layout with separate display cases for the premium brands the dispensary features. A helpful budtender greets shoppers offering advice, insights, and education. Some of the brands I quickly discovered included awesome pre-rolls from Cabana as well as a discrete vaporizer battery from Summit. It can also be fun to wander and see what catches the eye. This is how I discovered that Pabst Blue Ribbon is now making a “high” seltzer (honestly the best edible drink I’ve ever had), that celebrated brand Kiva is now making edibles with live resin (an unprocessed approach that preserves the flavor of the flower), and that Plus now makes gummies designed to help you sleep, which I’m extremely excited to try.

The last two brands were among those featured on the second level, which for the grand opening was used to highlight specific products along with custom latte art from Coffee Dose, nail art by Planty of Nails, custom laser etching with cannabis etching, screen printing, a gift wrap station, a terp bar and more. Going forward, this space will be available for all sorts of purposes, such as private events in addition to supporting local, diverse and minority-owned businesses and brands with pop ups and shelf space.

This downtown location is Unrivaled Brands, Inc. second People’s-affiliated and fifth overall dispensary in California. It joins People’s OC, a leading dispensary in the Orange County, and is in a preeminent location that provides an unrivaled experience, and one of the few dispensaries in downtown Los Angeles with dedicated parking. They are also giving back with philanthropic partners Chrysalis and Downtown Women’s Center. Both organizations are guiding and empowering (jobs/homeless women) which is aligned with the company’s mission, and 5% of proceeds went to them on launch day with continued efforts to elevate these organizations with community and in-store amplification yet to come.
