For the most over-the-top menu featuring the freshest sushi, a drive to Glendale is absolutely worth the trip. Cue the symphony of Japanese flavors in artful specialty dishes, inventive combinations, and melt-in-your-mouth raw delicacies at UMI by Eden.
Think tasteful, understated Vegas or Hollywood lounge. It’s hard to to imagine the amount of money that was put into this comfortably lavish restaurant – with plush velvet couches, dim accent lighting, high ceilings with dramatic chandeliers, and jagged-cut marble wall backdrops.

This sushi hot spot is located next to historic Alex Theatre and within American fusion restaurant Eden On Brand (that occupies the entire 3-story space). Begin your night at UMI by Eden with a Lychee Martini (that’s not too sweet) and a Matcha Sour made with Matcha and Suntory Japanese whiskey, presented with a green zigzag print dusted with Matcha powder.

And let the culinary journey begin!
Start with the Truffle Snow Edamame, elevated with garlic and Thai chili along side a row of LA favorite Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice that is even better than what you would find at Nobu or Katsuya. Don’t miss the Uni Toast, if available. Stellar sake, Japanese whiskey, cocktail, and wine selections offer great pairings throughout the evening.

UMI translates to “sea” in Japanese and is inspired by the beauty and tranquility of the ocean, serving up uber-fresh fish in its purest form and leaving you wondering how close the DTLA fish market must be. Under the expert guidance of Founder Erik Khojoyan and Michelin-starred chefs Kirk Sandel and Hoon Kang, UMI’s innovative menu celebrates the essence of Japanese culture with unexpected twists.

Surprisingly, over half of UMI’s recipes are gluten-free, including their tempura and house soy sauce made with tamari.

Savor the fish. Order some of our favorite sushi bites:
Spanish Bluefin Tuna
Toro
Smoked Oraking Salmon
Jumbo Scallop
Red Snapper
Halibut with pickled Thai chili and scallion

Try dishes that are truly a feast for all senses:
A5 Wagyu Tartar is adorned with flowers and accompanied by slices of truffle cheese toast that enhance each bite of rich umami meat with the crisp cheesy crunch.

Baked King Salmon hand roll with snow crab is mouth-watering.

Kanpachi with yuzu ponzu has just the right amount of heat.

Albacore – fanned out with truffle oil, chili crisp, fried onions – delivers a burst of spicy flavor with a crunch.

Red Snapper w crème fraiche, micro shisho and yuzu foam is a delightfully refreshing medley

The Lemon Roll dispersed with Spanish bluefin tuna, avocado, lemon, puffed amaranth – accompanied by a couple signature rolls – may be all you need for a light but fulfilling bite.

A dessert surprise concludes the extravagant evening, as a chocolate dome is melted with liquid hot chocolate before our very eyes to reveal ice cream and brownie – all perfectly paired with an Espresso Martini, donned in a checkerboard top and gold foil, as sexy as this UMI venue.
