From March 8 through May 11 of 2025, visitors can discover 9 art installations across the Coachella Valley. The thought provoking pieces from international artists can be discovered across Greater Palm Springs, with several clustered in Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, and Palm Desert. Download the DesertX app or log onto DesertX.org to plot your journey across the surreal desert landscape and watch as the setting enfolds around each piece. Finding the art is part of the fun.

At the media preview, we listened to numerous remarks from Supervisor V. Manuel Perez: “Hope is though art. Many here in the Coachella Valley may not have money to go to a fancy museum. The studio is the desert. Land art. It is a means to grow internally. No social boundaries, not even a border. Anyone can go to Desert X. Voices and struggles are finally being heard through art.”

This is the fifth year Desert X has bloomed in the desert. A new Desert X will pop up in the agave fields of Mexico soon.

“If I can take your breath away for a few seconds, I’m happy with that.” – artist Jose Davila. Discover his marble boulder blocks brought to the desert in view of the windmills reminding me of chunks of The Getty Museum. “Blocks of marble carved from across the border brought here. A presence here, empty somewhere else.”

We met Swiss artist Raphael Hefti, who enlightened us on his artistic process and the overwhelming positive and kind responses he received when asking for volunteers to help install. His ‘streaming ribbon’ cuts across the landscape, often looking like a horizon line or shooting beams, depending on which way you approach. What is your perspective? Find his work in Palm Desert.
Earth is also unable to settle on itself. What is home? How do you carry it with you….when there is no place left to return to. What remains? Showcasing a modern way of constructing home, Ronald Rael’s art is giving a different approach to the building materials and the climate crisis.
The Adobe Oasis is a mud-made home right in the heart of Palm Springs, created by using robotic 3-D printer programming to design the structure entirely out of mud and straw, like frosting on a cake, and this one is surrounding a lone palm.

Artist Alison Saar invites viewers to her roadside Soul Service Station and shares, ” I love that the desert is often considered a void in the landscape, but I see it as a space to empty one’s mind and to fill one’s heart.

Expand your mind. Let the desert act as a canvas.
