We Love LA Beer – Time for a Relief Pitcher

Baseball used to have a term for a pitcher who came into the game at a crucial moment in the late innings to try to save the game, often with runners on base or a dangerous hitter at the plate. The relief pitcher was called a fireman. This article is about the recent fires. And beer.

The devastation of the January wildfires will haunt Los Angeles for years, probably decades. But tragedies have a way of uniting us like nothing else can. There are countless stories of charitable deeds and sacrifice epitomized perhaps by donation centers getting so inundated with clothing, they had to say stop, that’s plenty.

In addition to the helping hands offered by fellow Angelenos, we’re seeing local companies do their part, as well. I wanted to highlight one industry just to give a sense of how business is getting involved in the relief efforts. More than 180 breweries from 25 states and four countries are contributing to the cause, offering a We Love LA Wildfire Relief Beer.

The fundraising is being spearheaded by a trio of breweries: Firestone Walker Brewing Company , Common Space Brewery and Creature Comforts. The interstate and international collaboration is attempting to accelerate the road to recovery by donating to the United Way’s Wildfire Response Fund

Just for the sake of context, Firestone Walker was founded up the road on the Central Coast, a region that has grown into one of the finest brewing hubs in the country. It also has an awesome brewhouse in the heart of Venice and has been an avid supporter of local causes and sustainability projects. For their role in the relief effort, the brewery developed a West Coast Pilsner (5% ABV) to help raise money. And right out of the gate, the initiative raised $200,000 and counting.

Look for We Love LA beer in 16-ounce 4-packs and on tap at all Firestone Walker locations while supplies last. Do your part by purchasing a relief pitcher. And if you happen to see any firemen – the actual type, not the baseball ones – buy them one, too.
