La Nena Cantina: Malibu’s must-visit buzzy new Baja hotspot with the best Happy Hour in town

Malibu restaurants were hit hard by fires and mudslides this year, with PCH closed for six months, cutting off access from the Westside and limiting the visitor traffic that brings fresh energy to the tranquil coastal community. On the heals of the pandemic and with memories of 2018’s Woolsey fire still front of mind, Malibu really needed a pick me up. A new Point Dume eatery, La Nena Catina, arrived just in time to answer the call!

The bright, cheery restaurant and bar, located in Point Dume Village and adorned with rattan hanging lamps and cozy booths with large beige pillows, is where locals and visitors happily mingle – exchanging numbers, striking up conversations, and savoring coastal Mexican bites with traditional and modern flavors. People are excited to be out socializing and the Boho Baja vibe here embodies the Malibu spirit.

This friendly spot is the most fun we have experienced in Malibu in a long time, and also boasts the BEST HAPPY HOUR we have ever known to exist in modern-day Malibu, every day from 3 – 6 PM, with stellar prices for drinks and food.

Think $4 tacos, $7 Ceviche Trio, $8 Qusadillas, $10 Nachos (with chicken, beef, or al pastor).

Score a Classic Margarita for $10, Sangria for $8, and a Michelada Especial with tajin for $8.

Try a Mezcal Mule or one of our favorite Mexican after dinner drinks – the Carajillo (Liquor 43 and coffee) – for only $10 during this happy time.

Sample some of our favorite drinks from the SUMMER SPECIALS MENU like the Pineapple 🍍 Cucumber 🥒 Refresher, Tamarindo Refresher, and the Watermelon 🍉 Mojito. They can be made as a Mocktail or with tequila or Mezcal.

BRUNCH is now offered on weekends until 1:00, featuring authentic breakfast dishes like huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, and fresh omelets.
