Arianna Huffington sheds light on the importance of really living and what it means to THRIVE. Huffington’s new book, THRIVE: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder seems to be a necessary reminder in this day and age of how to be present and peaceful inside.
In a packed church in Beverly Hills on the evening of May 7, my friend and I fought the Obama traffic to hear Arianna Huffington, author and chair, president, and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group have a Live Talks LA conversation with Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Some of her important messages and ideas that stood out to us are the following:
Sleep is essential for your wellbeing.
Dis-connectivity is the new necessary to being present.
Money and power are not living.
Luck presents itself in many forms.
Give yourself fifteen minutes transition between work and bed.
Unplug all in the bedroom.
NO is a sentence. Say no to things in order to recharge yourself.
Giving is the third leg of the stool that is needed for happiness in life.
She explains our drive for money and power to two legs of a three-legged stool. They may hold us up temporarily, but sooner or later we’re going to topple over. We need a third leg — a third metric for defining success — to truly thrive. That third metric, she writes in Thrive, includes our well-being, our ability to draw on our intuition and inner wisdom, our sense of wonder, and our capacity for compassion and giving.
Accept the things you can not change, and have the wisdom to know the difference. (We all know that one, but it is often hard to remember and practice that truth.)
