First of all if you are going to celebrate National Olive Oil Month, Fig & Olive is THE place to go. French Riviera-inspired, the ambiance of this iconic restaurant is chic, streamlined, airy and easy. And, I hear the one in Newport Beach is even more sensational. The beauty is that it won’t be redundant in taste to sample both Cali locals (Melrose Place and Newport Beach) or the ones tucked into trending hotspots in New York and Chicago, because not only is the decor and lay out unique in each restaurant, but Executive Chef Pascal Lorange has designed menus to compliment the areas in which each Fig & Olive resides. I foresee a Fig & Olive road trip on the horizon. Oui?

But back to the main dish ~ Zucchini Carpaccio. Created also in honor of National Zucchini Day this month, it is delicate and most delicious. Super thin slices of farmer’s market zucchini are cut with a mandolin, drizzled with a lovely whisked combination of lemon, salt, pepper and the sweet buttery notes of their heavenly Picholine Olive Oil, and finished with pine nuts and Parmesan. Wow! It’s simplicity is complicated with nuanced flavors, layers and freshness.

Also in the August mix, is a delightfully refreshing blood orange libation called “The Fig & Olive” topped with, you guessed it, Olive Oil. Made specifically with cucumber infused vodka, blood orange infused olive oil, egg white, simple sirup, celery, lime juice and blood orange puree, this signature cocktail is amazing and a must try. Just take heed – it goes down super easy on a hot LA afternoon. Yum! Yum! and YUM!

Indulge in one or many of Fig & Olive’s 30 incredible olive oils either during your restaurant visit or on-line. They ship nationwide and come with an “Olive Oil Guide” alongside tips on how to host your own olive oil tasting. They also have a host of other specialty items to tantalize your taste buds and unleash your inner chef. Bon Appétit!
