Now you can imbibe at Chez Jay in The Backyard

Chez Jay! Hey! Your favorite beachside watering hole with a lurid history now has a relaxing space to imbibe outside called The Backyard. This cozy outdoor bar space in Santa Monica with couches, a fire pit, and Adirondack chairs is serving up some of the best bar bites, perfect for happy hour or a post-beach/post-surf giddy-up! A bright blue fence backs up the space to Santa Monica’s Tongva Park, which we were repeatedly told we have to see.

Fried oreos, crispy chicken sandwiches, peppercorn maple bacon samplers, kimchi quacamole, and 10 inch Wagyu hotdogs with tomato, pickles, onions, relish, peppers and mustard on split-top brioche are just some of the fun bites being offered on the Good Eats Menu to help soak up your alcohol infused session.

LaLaScoop’s cocktail favortites include the spicy jalapeno cucumber Juan Margarita and the refreshing good ole Hotel California with gin and grapefruit. Always nice to see a Dark and Stormy on a menu along with LA’s beloved Tecate Michelada, made with veteran Chez Jay Bartender Petter Whichman’s Wickie’s Bloody Good Mix, and lime with a Tajin rim. Another cocktail to sip responsibly is the Never Old Fashioned made with Slow & Low Rock and Rye Whiskey, orange peel, Luxardo Marashino Cherry and bitters. Cocktails are surprisingly around $10 – $12 which coming from Malibu is a bargain.

It is impossible to have a bad time at this almost 60-year-old classic dive bar with egos checked at the door. A typical VIP celeb just wants to be treated like a regular. A place for all ages, you never know who you will meet at Chez Jay, where once you might have overheard a conversation from Warren Beaty, Marilyn Monroe, or Quentin Tarantino!

Open every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm; every Friday from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm; every Saturday from 12:00 noon to 11:00 pm, and every Sunday from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm.
