My hair has suffered. It’s dry and damaged. Possibly the worst it has ever been in my life. Maybe it’s old age, months swimming in the sea and laying in the sun, or perhaps two rounds of highlights too close together. I wanted to chop all my hair off and go bald, and start over. Not wanting that to be the solution just yet, I invested in deep conditioning treatments, soaking my hair in warm olive oil and even coconut oil all day, expensive natural conditioners, and every possible conditioning oil for wet and dry hair. The ponytail look was starting to seem like the only option.

It was time. Time to cut it off! When I ran into expert celeb stylist Mika Fowler at an event, I knew I needed her expertise again. I had experienced Mika’s precise, almost loving method over the years and now I felt desperate for someone I could trust, who could fix ‘the dead.’

Mika’s sweet personality makes me feel at ease because she listens to what you have to say. I show her pictures. She understands. I watch her as she assesses carefully every strand on my head as she snips and angles her tools. Her method is not like any salon I have been to before because she dry cuts your hair, while using a quick steam iron to analyze each strand. I watch as she takes every strand into consideration snipping my mane like an art form. She hails from Japan where she first developed her technique and style and later, at Vidal Sassoon. Mika’s method takes the hair’s natural chemistry, flow and bounce into account to perfectly shape each creation. I can actually see my new look evolving in the chair.

You can find Mika at the posh Kim Vo Salon at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. I was thankful she had time for me since some of her recent celeb clients include Olivia Munn, Alison Brie, Emma Roberts, Annalynne McCord, Malin Ackerman, Rosario Dawson, Cameron Monaghan, Emanuelle Chriqui, Nina Dobrev, Booboo Stewart, Fivel Stewart, Camila Ludenton, Carrie Preston, Ali Fedotowsky, Kyle Richards, Joanna Krupa and Cassie Cserbo.

This past summer Mika shared with LaLaScoop How to Style Wet Hair when you leave the pool or beach. You can also find Mika on Instagram. To use a top colorist in Beverly Hills, consult Evelyn Bilauca at Jonathan and George who recently helped me go from uber blonde to ‘bronde.’
