On Thursday, October 19th, the Hollywood Roosevelt hosted a Howl-o-ween event on their penthouse rooftop. Our LalaScoop contributor, and E-”dig”-tor in chief, Schnitzel von Toohey covered the event. Here is his take:

My adventure began when my humans got into their elf costumes and put me in a hoodie that resembled a reindeer with a red nose. We drove out to the Hollywood Roosevelt and was greeted by incredibly kind and welcoming staff. They had us wait in line, as they loaded each elevator with a single dog and a group of humans up to the penthouse. Being a shy rescue dog, I appreciated that the staff cared for each canine’s safety and ensured a safe way for us to get to the rooftop! When we arrived, the humans were greeted with glasses of champagne, and yummy snacks. I immediately saw dogs in costumes, sniffing each other, and using the thoughtful designated “potty” area! The view was breathtaking. I happily panted as I looked around and saw views of Downtown, the Hollywood sign, and the sprawl of the city. I had no idea there were so many humans and buildings around!

The evening started with dog watching, and then the costume contest began! Each pup was on full display strutting their stuff while the M.C. interviewed each owner. Some of the best costumes included donuts and coffee, super dog, the Incredibles, and a chicken in a basket. The audience heard many stories of rescue pups, like myself! There was a dog rescued from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and many other stories of dogs living their best lives after a human rescued them.  

The winner of the costume contest received a giant gift basket (the size of a Great Dane!) full of prizes and a year of pet insurance! I gave it my best shot spreading Christmas cheer as Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, accompanied by elves and a Christmas pickle, but sadly, I did not place. I can’t wait to try again next year. Congrats to the donuts and coffee dog, who won first place! Donut dog was lucky enough to win a basket full of Canidae goodies! All furry participants of the event left with a tote bag filled with Canidae snacks and treats! 

After the costume contest, the live auction began. The proceeds went to support the No Worries Movement which is an organization that is building a sanctuary for pets in need. Many humans excitedly bid on prizes, and every so often, fellow pups would attempt to bid on an item by barking!

The event ended with all participants receiving doggy bags full of tasty food and treats! I had a howlin’ good time, and look forward to the next dog events at the Hollywood Roosevelt!
