There are so many people attending Coachella now for just the fashion and music parties that it has been deemed #Nochella and #Glamchella. Although music brings the people together, apparently killer brand sponsored pool parties all over the Palm Springs/Indio area also bring everyone together. It feels like all of LA wants to shake their tail feathers in the desert, as a majority of the party goers are Angelenos. The Big Apples also flock (often promoting and gifting a new brand they launched) and even many other parts of the world jet in, like Europe.
There are dirty hippy-chic Boho parties in massive fields filled with hot men in no shirts, sponsored trucks hosting coffee from Australia, beer from LA, funnels in front of brands like @thesmilelife, many brand backdrops perfect for pouty pics, photo booths, and cheesy pool parties with booming head pounding DJ’s.
Coachella is not just for the twenty-something crowd, but all ages. Recently, I sat next to a dad in Brentwood dining at Sugarfish, and he was telling me how he just got back from taking his 17 year old son. An old student in Pacific Palisades waved me down on his skateboard to tell me he went with his friends and even slept in his car, and he’s 16!!
Besides the college-like low brow events, there are also some serious gorgeous pool side bashes filled with gifting, booze, and food bites, but most importantly some major fashionista people-watching. As I swaggered into my second bash sponsored by DJ Mia Moretti MAC Cosmetics at the uber gorgeous Palm Springs’ Ingleside Inn, I met two European girls from Sweden who came all the way to America just for Coachella. They called Coachella – their dream!
Guests included Katy Perry, Jeremy Scott, AlunaGeorge’s Aluna Francis and famed Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field. America’s young boy crush Tara Reid did not look like she did 10 years ago during the week we spent at the Shore Club in Miami. Hollywood or anyone for that matter needs to help her out since her emaciated body could barely keep her high wasted white washed denims over her rail figure.
Always tons of photographers on hand to catch the latest Coachella wacky style or BoHo chic, model-types and fashionistas sipped vodka with Skinny Girl Sparklers as the connectivity amongst fashion, music, writing, media, and entertainment swirled. Of course there were numerous photo ops, like a guy with an old school vintage camera allowing you to pick up your Poloroid-like snapshots as a party souvenir.
Many designers presented their collections at Glamchella too. At the gorgeous Parker Palm Springs, the lawn area featured Pandora Jewelry and Mickey Mouse (Minnie bags) products along with many other designers as guests sipped on brand sponsored alcohol cocktails, snapped cool Photo Booth brand pics, and sampled beauty products. The Runway section of the Gene Autry Estate featured gorgeous models in “Coachella-fied” gear to heart pumping tunes. I was happy to catch one show out of three day grand affair.
We ran into Patrick Schwarzenegger leaving his hotel room with all his boys on the way out of Parker’s fabulously edgy sexy foyer with its massive vintage sign DRUGS, as well as Instragram fashionista sensation Chiara Ferragni as she was entering Parker and headed to the H&M party poolside. A woman ran up to her to give her a product. Of course! The Blond Salad aka Chiara seemed gracious. We later saw her everywhere, from bathroom lines to crowds smooshing her in front of us with her boyfriend leaving some kick a$$ music sets in the VIP area. My friends thought I was crazy for even pointing this girl out, but many of us Instagram lovers are intrigued by her sensational Instagram fashion success. Harvard even did a case study on Chiara and her 16 person team.
Next up, the stunning twenty-person Sparrows Lodge was the perfect quiet oasis…from pillows strewn on the ground to an elegant long wooden table draped with hanging vintage linens. This new boutique hotel opened it’s doors about six months ago. From Friday through Sunday noon to 5pm, “The Retreat” was one of the most relaxed places in the desert, with a chill crowd enjoying beauty and styling touch ups from Glam Squad, nails by Vanity Projects, massages and facials from Soothe. The booze had me headed to a massage while my friend had her nails be-dazzled.
Kiehls was generously gifting in many rooms surrounding the pool. We discovered chic headphones from NYC brand Caeden in a vinyl listening room sponsored by L.A.’s own Amoeba Music. Healthy food looked so beautiful from NYC’s The Fat Radish, while cocktails flowed from Absolut Elyx. You could go the LA healthier route and sip on a Clover Juice or even something from the Bespoke coffee bar. I really didn’t want to leave this place. It was so serene, even with all the party guests. Maybe it was their home-y Zen layout.
Next up, we had enough energy to make it to the PopSugar bash at the Viceroy Hotel. Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio celebrated the launch of her new BaubleBar collection as well as her VO CO brand – vodka coconut in slender white bottles, perfect on ice. We went home with a dazzling statement necklace along with a bag of fashion goodies. Each room had neat activities to keep you entertained from making real flower crowns to screen printing bags to PopSugar video fun capturing a glimpse of your Glamchella day. We watched the sunset behind the neon colored artwork, and ended up here again the next day.
After a long day of parties, we never made it to the Nylon Magazine party that started at 10 PM and spent the next morning at the Pandora Indio Invasion party at the breathtaking Cree Estate in Cathedral City. T-Mobile and Pandora hosted this day party with hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and DJ sets by Questlove and SOSUPERSAM. Glam Squad gave me Coachella braids while I met the bigwigs at Pandora and some interesting music writers from LA.
After some more festivities we made it home for a power nap to recharge for a 10 PM arrival to Neon Carnival curated by Brent Bolthouse. No idea what to expect, we ended up in a parking lot filled with inches of dry dust like stepping into a foot of clay powder. This airport hangar party was super surreal with its neon-lit ferris wheel, carnival rides, and fun games.
This massive outdoor party turned into a throbbing outdoor desert club with thousands dancing. DJ sets included Politik, Jesse Marco, DJ Ruckus, and Kayper. Don Julio cocktails flowed and I ended the night with two different kinds of gourmet ice cream flavors from the Coolhaus truck. Happy Girl!
Other hot parties of the weekend included H&M at Parker, Nylon Magazine, Bootsy Bellows, Refinery69, and Rachel Zoe. One thing is certain, Coachella isn’t just about the music anymore. It has become a full scale party scene where brands can showcase their latest products and get them into the right hands, or so they hope. After two days of dizzying socializing at #Nochella, I finally made it to Coachella on Sunday.
